Flip your dog

My yogic passion is Hatha Yoga. I love the methodology for slowly aligning the subtle body, working with breath, and holding poses. It's powerful, complex in its simplicity, and accommodating to all bodies. Depending on your situation and needs, you can make it easier or harder.

When I practice, however, I can't help but move through sun salutations flowing with breath. This is called a vinyasa or linking movement with breath. A fun addition to the basic sun salutation is to flip your dog. You start in down dog, leg lifts and goes to the sky, leg bends as if to touch the shoulder and just keeps right on going until your foot merges with the earth and your heart expresses to the sky.

It looks like a full frontal to the Universe and always makes me smile when I remember this sweet poem of Hafiz:

A Potent Lover

The sun and the moon shiver
When I drop my pants.
Beware
Of this potent
Lover.
